My child was in the security line. He saw the box after it had gone through the first time then taken out. The student knew there was a loaded gun in there but it was unclear if the student knew the box was in the bag. My child felt that the student knew 100% that the box was in the bag but claimed lots of "it isn't mine" and "I didn't know it was in there" and "someone is setting me up."

Things returned to normal really quickly for the kids who were still in line.

Something tells me you would have found a reason, one way or another, not to attend. That's fine.

And by the way, it's "recurring" not "occurring." I'm thinking that if you were attending Wilson as a freshman next year, you'd be placed in the modified Honors English class, not the full Honors class. You clearly have limited comprehension skills when reading how the Honors courses will be offered.

And my son had absolutely no idea about any of this until I showed him the email a few minutes ago. He thought I was joking when I asked him about it.

DC, toured a boarding school that was local this past fall. We both fell in love with the school environment, proximity to home and the rigor of independent study. Wilson was a backup in case DC became homesick, but now that option is off the table. I would encourage families to apply to boarding schools if interested, you'd be surprised at the aid packages for a decent middle class family.

Interesting that we get to know from NBC, rather than from the muddy email from the school, that the gun was detected by the security check .

How can a gun pass through the x-rays?

Maybe we should get rid of these, they just cause delays, the security officers look at their smartphones while the bags go though, instead of at the screen

vague email to say the least. The message does not allow parents to understand relevant information: was the gun detected on the x-ray? Was it sneaked in and then the school administrators were informed by a whistleblower, just like last year?

Following security and emergency protocols, MPD was promptly notified, and the weapon was confiscated during weapons abatement. .."

"Minimal disruption" : is this really relevant information for parents at the time that we get to know about the presence of a gun at school?

"Weapons abatement" : What does it really mean when applied to a school?

The only relevant piece of information, whether, once again, a gun was sneaked in, undetected (or was, instead detected by the x-rays which proved to be a useful tool) was not provided
