The fact that they spend more $$ on athletic FA recruitment, that most private schools do not do, than on FA for kids with lower SES but great grades spoke volumes.

Bullis parent here. We have been happy with both the MS and US program. I pretty good balance of arts, sports and academics. Though our child has not liked every teacher the overall experience has been outstanding. I will say the English and History teachers do assign a heavy load of homework throughout the year. We are happy with our decision to attend Bullis. Yes we have met some families with extreme wealth, but if you go to a school with a $40k price tag of course you will find wealthy families. Everyone we have associated with has been kind and welcoming. Good luck to those awaiting to hear from admissions.

Yes but without specifics you could substitute almost any private school for "Bullis" in OPs statement.

This forum can be helpful to others trying to learn about a school when people post balanced and specific comments. Obviously each poster's opinion is based on his or her personal experience with the school- but let's help each other out and be specific and thoughtful.

We had a bad experience with a private and when I posted about the actual problems I was jumped all over and told I was making it up that there was a problem with us as a family or we got rejected from the school (neither was true) because it was such a wonderful place.

So I can see why perhaps the OP is less inclined to get into specifics, if she / he knows she will be shot down as a liar by the boosters.

Bullis family here: Yes - of course there can be problems at any school and in any class of an academic, social or any other nature. There can be a bad teacher or a bad group of kids or a bad fit in any environment. Schools can have reputations that are deserved or undeserved.

We left Bullis for the same reason -- academics were quite good (if a bit conventional), but there were too many cliques and the culture emphasized ostentatious display of wealth.

People do not understand that the Admission staff are sales people. Their job is to get you to apply. They want as many applicants as they can get so hey can sort through them. Band select the students they want.

In this sales role they may be encouraging. They may lead you to believe or you may understand that your DC's chances of Admission or the amount of FA you will get are higher than they will actually be.

^^ every school has classes with ill fitting social environments for some kids.

How can a school backstab you? I can understand promise more than they deliver, but... it sounds like there is more to the story. Perhaps, two sides like a discipline issue...

If you are considering Bullis, I offer this word of caution. They talk a good talk, but it is all talk. You need to watch your back, or you will find a knife sticking out of it. We learned the hard way. Total, eff'ing hypocrisy.
