+1 -- this is what Appletree is for. Why put those other schools higher if you don't plan to stay there?

Maybe she doesn't want her child to be subjected to the academically focused curriculum and disciplinarianism at Appletree? I get that you all chafe at the idea of someone who isn't going to stay at a school taking a spot, but OP needs to do what is best for her kid. That said, commute is an important factor to consider.

Preschool seems like the best time to do Montessori. Seems like a fine idea to do it for 2 years and then move to public school. I did actually.

Totally disagree. The magic of Montessori comes out in the elementary classes. Two years is pointless and will have no benefit while possibly making it a tough transition.

I once didn't apply to Brent as an OOB for K, then watched a whole bunch of peers get in.

You have zero chance of getting into Peabody. Otherwise, good list. Location-wise, you might want to put Ludlow-Taylor above JO. When you take off Peabody you might want to put Miner or Payne.

+1 especially for SWS or CHML, which have specific teaching styles.

If your number is low enough that you don't get into Maury IB out are also very unlikely to get into CHML, SWS, Peabody or Van Ness, so I would move up the apple tree selections even if they weren't close to you.

If you don't plan to stay at a school past PK don't take up the spot.

OOB haven't gotten in the Peabody in years -- all OOB sibs haven't made it in the last few years -- i would move up LP

We are in bounds for Maury and will use that for sure starting at K (or sooner if we get in). On the fence as to whether we should go with proximity and move AppleTree Lincoln Park (it is super close to our house) up before Peabody? Thanks!
