It is possible that the OP's post about gangs in elementary school came from a place of general concern about the challenges facing all of the children in MCPS, including the ones not in the DCUM demographic. I hope so. Or it is possible that the condensed version of OP's post is, "Panic! My kid in elementary school might be going to school with gang members !1!1!!!!1"

Why would you assume any different? There ARE gangs in MS/HS already and it makes sense that kids in ES face similar challenges. Of course there is a concern about it if your kid is in MCPS.

And, as for the bolded part - isn't that a valid concern? Again, not sure what your point is here.

It doesnt clarify if they actually recruit in the schools ( which i doubt) or in their neighborhoods and some of the kids happen to be in 5th grade.
