Why is that an oops? We do too, and I'm ok with it while they're in college. They have part time jobs as well, but they don't earn enough to pay for much and I'd rather have them save that money to use after graduation.

Why?

My kids are HS age. I pay for most things but they pay for optional things..cell phone case, head phones, ice cream with friends. They use gift money or earn it.

Starting transitioning to pay for some of my own things in college when I had a job (no more allowance.) Paid for most of own living expenses once I had a job, and then when I went to grad school but parents still paid for a few things. Was on my own by 24-25.

Thru college, but they had jobs. Saved most of what they earned so they had a nice chunk of change when they graduated college.

Daughter just finished grad school in December. Age 25. Just started her first job. The Bank of Mom closed Dec 31. I didn't mind subsidizing her while she was in school and making progress. But she's on her now.

I remember when my mom took me shopping for a winter coat senior of high school and said "this is the last winter coat I'm ever going to buy for you". Had that coat until I was in my 40s!

When I started college, so 18. When I went home my mom would of course feed me, but I payed for everything when I wasn't at home. The last time she actually took me shopping was the summer before I started college for some new clothes. My dad sent money monthly, but I mostly used that for tuition.

I started paying for my own things when I was 25 (now 35), and got my first job. By my own things, I mean all activities with my friends, and any clothes over the $100-or-so allowance my parents gave me every spring/fall for clothes.

Age? What did they start paying for?
