OP here. Thanks, PP. I do hope to make it to Bethany someday!

Change your mind -- Bethany Beach is the only place to go for the 4th and anyone who says otherwise is just jealous.

Richmond? Why? Just wondering because I used to live there and wouldn't recommend it for a multi day getaway. Not the OP, BTW.

Anything that avoids using 95, particularly south of DC.

Head west or Northwest or if you go south, use I-81.

I'd head to the mountains. Hiking and maybe some swimming?

Philly, Baltimore, Richmond, Massanuten (might be more than 3 hours though), Williamsburg

OP here. We will be in Charlottesville for a family event later in the summer so that's off the table for July 4th.

Deep Creek could be good. We generally like woods, cabins, outdoor activities. I was considering a PA weekend to include Falling Water but not sure 6 year old would love that.

Deep Creek Lake? Philly (you could take the train)? Charlottesville? Richmond? What do you like to do?

Looking for a fun getaway but also looking to avoid the crowds and traffic of the beaches. Any fun ideas? Have 2 kids under 10.
