Read the thread. There already is a k-8 all girls public charter school. The meeting is about the prospect of a an all girls public charter HIGH SCHOOL.

For those suggesting simply changing Banneker to an all-girls high school my question is, why? Yes a large percentage of Banneker's student population are girls but its just one school in one Ward. There are 7 other Wards and thousands of girls throughout the city that could benefit from having an all-girls high school so why deny/deprive them? Are girls not worth it? Are girls not deserving?

A bit of an exaggeration. Last I saw, Banneker was about 73% girl, Ellington 67% and SWW 60%. It is largely due to not having sports as another PPnpointed out.

I see this is for a All Girls High School post so that's awesome. Banneker is majority girls and one main reason is due to their lack of sports programs for boys (Varsity football and Basketball) no Baseball as well. They do have sports that boys participate. However, those 3 sports not being there is a key to them not having a lot of boys at the school.

Banneker is mostly girls?

Make Banneker your all girl school...the population is already above 90% female...it would compliment the newly established all boys school.

I can't attend, but I can tell you there is a great need for such a school, provided it has truly top notch academics, rigorous curriculum, and a structured, safe climate.
