Brown tells his audience Islamic slavery was fundamentally better than slavery that was practiced in the U.S., since it was not racially motivated.

I am not sure I agree with that, but it is a coherent and not unreasonable position. Not sure why it is grounds for firing.

*waves hands* I've studied Islamic and specifically Ottoman slavery - the mamluks and such. The professor is right. The Islamic cultures created an enslavement system in which anyone, no matter their racial color or cultural backgrounds (didn't extend freedoms to religion though), could rise through the ranks. If I had to compare it to anything - it'd be the Romans gladiator system, where for a time you can earn your freedom through your prowess in the fighting arena. Except for the Ottomans it was just being really politically saavy.

Anyway, that beats the hell out of the U.S. field vs house slave system where you worked til you died, could never entertain the possibility of earning your freedom, and certainly weren't given the opportunity to accumulate wealth and therefore status and therefore property and therefore a family.

How was he not fired? Let's think. Still thinking. Of yeah... TENURE. That thing professors have that gives them the academic freedom to express points of view that are unpopular, distasteful or just obnoxious-- without being fired.

Look the POV here is hard to justify, and I won't try. And if the students are unhappy, they will make that known. But, in the meantime, all three of the Trumpkins who went to college know that tenure exists for this exact reason. So that not only the PC and popular views get aired, and so discussions that include different points of views happen.

And if you had gone to a real college, you would know this OP.
