This election has definitely brought out the worst in people. Why can't you try to be a decent kind person and "go high" as Michelle Obama advised. i hope for your community that you don't raise your children to surround themselves by only similarly-minded people.

Around Halloween time one of my closest friends at work was going around showing a picture of the jack o lantern her daughter made because she thought it was hilarious. She had carved Hillary behind bars into the pumpkin. Not only did I think it wasn't funny at all, but it was pretty inappropriate to be showing at work. So I had two reasons to question her judgement and I had a hard time recovering from that so now I'm cordial but can't really bring myself to be warm and fuzzy with her anymore.

+1 Yes, it's the failure to denounce the horrible inhumane parts of his platform, of his alt-right supporters, I can't tolerate. I can agree to disagree on basic policy differences, but this is a far different kettle of fish.

This seems relatively minor. And, I voted for Hilary and am very anti-Trump. You don't have to be best friends, but there is little to be gained from being unfriendly to a neighbor in this case. I wish the only objectionable thing that my neighbor did was vote against what I believe. There are worse things a neighbor could do that would justify being unfriendly.

It was the emails. Part of it was that she didn't understand how the FBI could review all of the emails from Anthony Weiner's computer in a week. I knew she wouldn't listen if I tried explaining that it's easy to weed out duplicates...

My neighbor had a "LOCK HER UP" sign in her window about a week before the election. Before she put that up, we were very friendly with each other, but since that went up, I've had a really hard time being neighborly. We used to chat a few times a week, but now I really don't want to engage. Before that sign went up, I would never have pegged her for a Trump supporter.
I have other neighbors who supported Trump, and I can still pretend to be friendly with them, but the whole "lock her up" thing really got to me. Locking up political opposition is what they do in countries without truly free democracies.
We run into each other multiple times a week. How do I get over this?
