They couldn't start CPR right away. Her parents dove in after her, but were unable to get her out of the water because she was buckled into the ATV.

Didn't read the article. Does Jamie Lyn Spears still live in Lousiana, where they're originally from? These type of activities might be more common in rural areas, where there's more land to play around in.

People do it. They even have have two wheeled dirt bikes for kids around that age.

I am always so shocked when people let their kids ride ATVs. I even know someone whose young child wound up with broken ribs and internal bleeding after riding in an ATV. She was so surprised he got hurt because "he always wears his helmet". Those things are rolling death traps. I'm so sorry for the little girl's accident and I truly hope she has a quick recovery, but she never should have been in one of those things, especially near a pond.

I think it's really common to let kids ride on ATVs and I just don't get it. I know someone who had an ATV accident that resulted in a traumatic brain injury-he still needs a full time caregiver.

My 8YO can't control her razor - I would not put her behind the wheel of an ATV.

(Note -I also have a classmate who died and a friend who is paralyzed from an ATV accident and this influences my POV)

She is 8 years old, is it just me or is that quite young to be riding an ATV by yourself? Sounds like responders got there very quickly, hopefully she will make a full recovery.
