You are not going to get 5-6k for a ring that was retail 12k

This is true. That's about what my ring cost -- I had an appraisal saying it was worth $17K. I shopped around and the best offer I got was $2,300. I took it.

The Tiny Jewel Box gave me the best offer for my diamond.

OP, either sell them for the value of gold / platinum / silver / whatever or look into an actual loan / free legal advice. You won't get anything selling your jewelry because it only has meaning to you, not others. If you're in the MoCo area, there's a coin shop in Gaithersburg that will give you the best price when it comes to the metal value. I think it's called the Coin Exchange.

Op do you understand that you will most likely get less than 40% of what you paid right? Jewelry is a rip off and has much less value than you probably think. Can you get a loan?

I found I made more cash selling several pieces for value of gold and platinum that I was being quoted by healers...

try family loans. The jewelry only has value to you. All try law school family clinic and self help

What kind of pieces do you have? I've sold a bunch of things to www.paradigmexperts.com. I mostly sold silver and some gold. I'm not sure how they would be with higher end pieces. their pricing on gold/silver is strictly based off of the market price by weight. Zibby and Steve were the people I've dealt with. They will come to your house. In terms of higher end pieces in my experience you 40-50% of the retail value is a good offer and you may not get that depending on how desirable a piece it is. High end names e.g. Tiffany and Cartier are more desirable.

If you have an established eBay profile (good ratings) you might do better selling there if you have some lower or medium end name brand pieces.

Can someone recommend a reputable place, preferably in DC?

I thought I could do this on my own as we have no real assets and only mountains of debt but it feels now that the judge is screwing me over. I am just running around blindly with no clue.
