I do wish they had kept it in Australia and I think it would've made more sense that everyone was so intense about "1st grade" - in America, people get mushy like that about kindergarten, not first grade.

It's interesting that the washington post gave it such a good review because the NYT review was not good at all.

I read the book and agree, first episode was slow and should have stayed in Australia or switched the kids to kindergarten.

Weren't the kids in kindergarten in the book? I know they were 5.

I read, and loved, the book. I didn't like the first episode very much. The dialogue felt very stilted to me. Maybe that's always the case when you're hearing the words from the page being spoken, but overall I didn't really enjoy it. I'll keep watching because I won't be able to help myself, and hope it gets better.

I loved the book and am really excited about this mini series. I thought the first episode was ok and hope the rest picks up. My husband was also bored

I think they chose good actresses for the roles. Adam Scott normally plays a jerk in movies so when I saw him cast I wasnt sure which husband he would be.

Hank Steuver gave it a glowing review in WaPo this week.

I live in Monterey and last year they did a lot of filming here and in Carmel/Pacific Grove/Big Sur. I am so looking forward to seeing it!

The trailers looks much more intense than the book. Which is probably why early reviews are loving it and giving high praise to the strong female lead ensemble.

I think Liane Moriarty gets put into the chick lit category to sell books, but she's definitely more than that. Her insights are deep, her writing is lovely.

From the trailer it seems like the HBO show way overdramatized the story, but that's the way it goes I guess.

YES!!!! Can't wait. I thought the book was excellent, albeit in the realm of "chick lit". I must be wrong, though, if HBO picked it up with such an all star cast.

Can't wait!

After seeing it recommended here, I just finished the audible version of this book (after having a little trouble reading it) and really enjoyed it. The HBO miniseries looks like it will be good. The casting looks perfect (but I wonder how closely it follows the book). Anyway, thanks DCUM for 22 hours of listening pleasure.
