I am so glad my daycare just takes my milk in bags and figures it out from there. She has three bottles, she deals with it. So much less to worry about!!

I don't number mine, but I think it's perfectly acceptable to do that.

I number my bottles for the exact reason you've given. I number and date each of them. 1 is the oldest milk and 4 is the newest. DC always drinks 1-3 at daycare and they send 4 back with us. I send an extra just in case they need a back up.

I tried this, daycare didn't pay any attention to it.

Not an unreasonable request. I work in an infant room and parents do this occasionally, it's pretty much zero extra work to glance at the numbers and grab the right one. I do agree that labelling as "use first" and putting it prominently in the front may make it more likely that they'll follow your request.

I label the bottles with numbers 1-3 and putting them in the fridge in the order I want them consumed. I've never had a problem with them feeding the bottles in order.

You take the bottle out of the daycare fridge, put it on your fridge at home, change the label and take it back. Ours makes us label with the sudsy pumped or thawed AND the day it is to be used. I never lied on the date it wa pumped or thawed and never had an issue.

I numbered my bottles at a Bright Horizons and no one batted an eye. Bottle 1 was the one with vitamin d drops in it. Bottle 2 was thawed from frozen. The others were the freshest milk I had. I knew if the 3rd or 4th bottle wasn't heated or fed, I could add vitamin d and send it again the next day.

Yeah, it's a little much. Put a post it that says "use first" on the oldest one.

Is it too anal retentive of me to number the bottles that I'm sending to daycare? We're just starting and up to now, baby has been exclusively breastfed, so I'm sending an extra bottle every day, just in case he gets hungry.

If he doesn't consume all of the bottles, I'm sending the leftover one the next day. I'd like to make sure that's the first bottle he consumes, so that we are rotating the stock, which I explained when I dropped him off yesterday (his first day). However, when I picked him up today, bottle #1 was still full. I'm just going to have DH give it to him tonight, so that it's not sitting around. However, I'm just wondering if this seem like an unreasonable request. If not, I'll remind them tomorrow; if it is, I'll keep my mouth shut and just give him the extra bottle at night, and add another pumping session.

Please don't flame me for being stupid, I'm really just trying to figure out what is and isn't too much to ask of a provider.
