Per a look at Redfin, that gets you an apartment on Georgia Avenue, shells of homes a little larger near Fort Lincoln, or something in Ward 7 or 8. This assumes you aren't going into the suburbs. Which you probably should do unless you get more money to spend.

You'll do best if you can luck into something in Ward 4, but if you can only shop in far NE Ward 5 or Wards 7 and 8, you won't have any options people on this board can recommend, other than driving further into town.

In that case I recommend charters as there are no geographic preferences allowed. Maybe 2 Rivers, LAMB, Inspired Teaching would be driveable from where you could afford.

I would strongly recommend looking in the suburbs.

Doesn't take kids pass PK4.

I'm in a similar situation, but I have more to spend on housing. I filled out the charter lottery application, and if I don't get any good options, I will rent in an upper NW school district. I would rather not be boxed in by neighborhood though.

Due to work stipulations we must live in DC. We are open to consider neighborhoods throughout the city and have a rental/mortgage payment budget of $2200/month. We have one child who will be in 2nd grade in the fall. We need to narrow down neighborhoods and thought doing this by school would work well. What elementary school would you recommend located close to a community where we can secure at least a 2-bedroom home or apartment? Thank you in advance for the recommendations.
