OP here - could you elaborate more? I will say Sidwell was one of the schools where the children seemed to be the most out going. We want to make sure we read the room right. Potomac also had very out going children - so thank you to the PP poster! (We are also thinking about younger siblings who are not quite as boisterous)

You may have toured Potomac when it was unusually quiet, but I have to say the school has been excellent with my son who sounds similar to yours. My other child is mich more reserved & hesitant, and they've done a great job with him, too. I've really noticed that they do an amazing job in the lower school of pairing up students with teachers that are appropriate for their personalities (my very different kids have never repeated a teacher). My kids come home mentally exhausted in a good way. We had toured a few schools before K where whole classrooms seemed to be sitting on iPads or working completely independently & silently for long periods of time. That's definitely not the case at potomac.

Potomac may have been quiet when you toured, but there are a lot of lively kids in the Lower School! (My kid is one of them!)

NPS has been a great fit for our outgoing child. Very vibrant school!

River School only goes through 3rd grade but one of the many things we really liked about it (two kids are alums) was how often the kids had "public speaking" events, such as before their class, before class w/parents, or before the school (such as a school play).

NPS has lots of interaction.

We have loved Primary Day for our outgoing and social DD. They do a ton of public speaking/ school performances which give the particulararly outgoing kids a chance to shine. All the teachers my kids have had have been high energy (in addition to warm and caring) and that is reflected in the classroom dynamics. This doesn't detract from the discipline in the classrooms however - they definitely run a tight ship.

It's hard to offer suggestions since I don't know where you live. Look at the progressive schools as they encourage more movement, discussion and collaboration. If you're in Montgomery County, Green Acres is great for social kids. The kids are encouraged to work together and there is constant chatter (the good kind!). We love the school!

And extremely intellectually curious child? We toured five and applied to four. We were surprised on the tours how some of the lower schools were SO quiet and others seemed to encourage more outgoing behavior (like kids enthusiastically participating rather than very quietly waiting their turn). We haven't had any issues in pre-k, but would love to find the environment that encourages more enthusiastic styles of learning. And of course we can't tell if our impressions from the tours were just a moment in time or if our observations were accurate. Of course, we need to actually get in ...so this may all be moot
