That's if it's actually constant and disruptive. Otherwise just ignore and this too shall pass. Or make him go stand in the bathroom or bedroom when he's burping. I have a nose picker and actually sending her to the bathroom every time seems to curb the impulse.

Lol my 6yo daughter just found this out too! I ignore it. But I am just cared for it to become permanent

The best way to make him stop is to stop giving the behavior attention.

Every time you hear him burp he loses a privilege. If he "can't help it" you tell him you'll call the doc and if the doc says he's doing it on purpose he loses another privilege. He's welcome to stand in his room all day and burp but if someone else hears it there are consequences.

Funny, my almost 6 yo does this too (mostly at the dinner table where he knows he has an audience).... and that's what we told him. it has curbed the behavior somewhat, but he still thinks he's hilarious

This is what 6 yo boys do, especially if they know it bugs the hell out of mom. ignore or tell him to do it in his room

This is normal. It is a phase. Just ignore it, and it will stop.

The good news is, it's a totally normal phase. So at least your kid is normal.

This past week my six year old has apparently learned how to make himself burp and has been burping constantly, literally burp after burp after burp. He claims he can't help it, but he is clearly swallowing air and then pushing out the burps. It is disgusting, and I just turned off the TV show he was watching because he wouldn't stop after I warned him. Am I being ridiculous to punish him for burping?
