Federal employees are also the doctors and nurses treating wounded vets at Walter Reed, federal prosecutors and their staffs, agriculture inspectors, passport issuers, park rangers and on and on. One third are vets. The percentage of the workforce that works for the federal government is at a post-WW2 low. But no matter, Don the Con and his merry band of henchmen can slash and burn their way to disaster.

I truly hope he does and his Republican congress approves the money for it.

It will be an enormous failure and massive money-drain that will help Democrats in the future. Everyone who has ever been to the border of the US and Mexico knows how ridiculous the concept of a wall is. Republicans are such under-educated stooges.

We already have a "wall." And a virtual "electronic wall." And the US Border Patrol is the largest law enforcement agency in the country. And illegal crossings are down.

But whatever. Don the Con makes a few used car salesman style promises with no actual money or plan and the base eats it up.

I thought I read that he can start on the wall without Congressional approval based on existing post 911legiskation on border security.

Not to be too nitpicky, but Congress has to appropriate money for it. They could authorize the spending, but if they don't appropriate the funds there is no money to spend. I know this is pedantic, but given spending of this magnitude it's possible that legislative technicalities could become important at some point.
