That commute wouldn't bother me, OP, especially for SWS.

Only thing to consider - SWS has no middle school feed.

Brookland to Two Rivers (4th) is a closer option to consider, driving or metro.

But to be honest, you have a lot of good options up there; not sure why you would haul down to SWS if you could likely get into one of the charters near you with that high a lottery number. I know SWS has a great reputation but it's not magical.

I'd drive. I work from home, so it would be round trip. We are too old for immersion schools and Montessori is not working out for us, so our options up here are limited.

If you are too old for Montessori, have you considered Inspired Teaching or Bridges?

I would definitely say SWS > ITS, CMI, Bridges, Lee. The commute isn't that bad. You'll be fine.

I do the reverse commute that you would do as I live near SWS and commute to a charter in Brookland. It's not bad. 15-20 minutes tops.

I used to do the drive when my daughter was at Petit Scholars on 12th Street & then drove my son down to SWS. The commute was about 15 minutes, on occasion worse b/c traffic is unpredictable. You'll find a few routes that work, I found it to be a good commute by DC standards.

There's at least a handful of Brookland families at SWS. If you are at all inclined toward biking, the Met Branch trail is an awesome way to get between the two neighborhoods. I have friends who do it in both directions (Brookland to the Cluster/SWS and NE Cap Hill to Yu Ying).

We live in Brookland and commute to a school relatively near SWS. It's about a 15 minute trip each way. You're going a little further, so add a couple of minutes in each direction. It's not a terrible commute. Very little traffic.

There are already a handful of families that carpool from Brookland to SWS, so it must be worth it.

Got it. BTW there are some coworking spots in Eastern Market so you could work some days "from home" in the neighborhood!

I live closer to SWS than you in Truxton Circle, 1.5 miles away, and I cannot commit to that driving commute. Granted we would be going down North Cap and east on H or whatever parallel street, and those streets are just such a nightmare in those directions during morning rush. I think from Brookland you would be looking at 25 minutes on average, but with less gridlock since you are going through more residential neighborhoods.

Depends on where in Brookland, mode of transportation, and work location if you have one.
