This. Especially the drawing - often word problems are baffling for more visual learners. If you can make them concrete, they become more manageable.

I just told my kid that find the 2 or 3 numbers hidden in the word problem and figure out if it's -,+, x,/.

My second grade DS has done Mathnasium since the Fall and it has helped him considerably. It is a significant time and financial commitment, but in our case it was worth it.

My second grader is struggling with math - especially word problems. We practice worksheets at home but he's still not doing well. What can I do to help him? Mathnasium? KUMON?
