I went to palm beach county recently and called their department of health and that was reassuring. What I learned is that local transmission means transmitted in Florida, not necessarily in palm beach county. As of November when I called, there had been no actual cases of transmission by a mosquito in the county, people who were affected had travelled to Miami (or abroad). With this info we went on our trip as it was an important family trip, but I probably would skip something that was more optional.

I live down here (live in PB County, work in Broward) and most of the OBs aren't worried about it anymore. There was a significant amount of spraying done to kill mosquitoes and aside from the transmission areas that are still under watch in Miami-Dade county most people barely think about it anymore.
