How about ice skating? Do it at a rink that has a nice area that can be set up for dinner and conversation for those who don't skate.

Thanks. She would love zavazone and ropes course. But I was thinking of a bat mitzvah party as more multi-generational and less very expensive birthday party. And the grandparents would not enjoy either of those venues. Am I thinking about it wrong?

I don't know. But people on the FB group recommended it.

Those don't sound fun for grand parents.

Why not have a party at your home that evening for a few of your friends and a bunch of her friends. Hire a bartender and serve nice food. I don't really understand how a ropes course makes sense with the relatives in town.

Clearly don't have a party with noise and a DJ.

There was a DJ, but the guy was great -- not dancing but more activity focused. Adults could talk and kids had fun.

What type of activities?

I'm still a few years away and I struggle with the zavazone, D&B, Bowlmor parties. How do they handle the great grandparents? And how is the mitzvah celebration in one of these venues any different then every other activity bday party that the kids are invited to? Do you rent out the entire facility? How is the food handled? I suppose food might not be an issue if you don't need it to be kosher.

We just got our bat mitzvah date and need to make venue reservations. DD does not like the idea of a DJ -- she doesn't like dancing or loud music -- and wants something reasonably active. Any ideas?
