We had a ceremony with just the two of us then we had a party at a small venue like a fire hall with kegs, wine and a fried chicken buffet. I think it was really fun. There were little kids, dogs and unexpected foreign soliders who were brought along by DH's cousin. Every photo we have of the event everyone was smiling and laughing.

If you want it to be "simple" don't go looking for "creative ideas." Just rent a room at a restaurant. Don't futz around with outdoor venues (backyards or beaches) because then you have to rent tents, tables, plates, glasses, etc.

How about lunch or dinner at Inn at Little Washington, or Volt in Frederick. Amazing meal, quaint setting, great photos.

This was the 2nd marriage for both DH and I. I had a more traditional wedding the first time around, he had a courthouse ceremony, and no subsequent celebrations after. We decided to meet in the middle for our wedding.

We got the last appt at the courthouse on a Friday, with only immediate family. Then we had dinner in a private room with our families, it was nice and low key. Afterwards we invited local friends to a hotel bar that had a really nice patio area - it was about 25 people and we pre-ordered some food and covered everyone's drinks.

A few weeks later, we hosted our closest friends (many from out of town) at a private room at our favorite steakhouse. It was a lovely evening, started off with a cocktail hour and then we were seated for dinner.

We loved it. Exactly what we wanted. Good food, good drinks, minimal planning.

PP here (the one suggesting focusing on the marriage). We used to be wedding photographers. Our favorite weddings were the ones where the couples and guests looked like they were having a hell of a time. Dance dance dance!

If I was willing to remarry I would do a backyard wedding, although if you have allergies that might not work. Second choice is a beach wedding. I would never sign the marriage license again though, personally.

It wasn't even a big wedding, I just didn't like all the traditional elements. We're not doing an engagement ring, just going to put that money into a few amazing trips. Husband #two is a keeper, a much better fit for me in every way.

This! I honestly don't remember any kind of decorations or centerpieces or photo displays or anything from the weddings I've attended. I only remember if the food was good and the music fun. I'm in the same boat you are, and I'm really not worried at all about the venue or decorations. I care the most about my dress, the food and drink, and the music. Everything else gets forgotten.

Went to a wedding recently where they rented a comedy club for the night. One of the comedians (they chose them in advance) was certified to perform weddings too.

I'm getting remarried in the summer and hated my first wedding. I don't look good in white, am allergic to flowers, not into flashy anything.

For this wedding we both want small, cozy, personal. We may just dress up and go down to the courthouse, then have a party afterwards.
