I would agree with you except that Op said she was not concerned or remorseful. Based on that I'd take the car. Only other thing is that I would make my kid pay the difference in insurance too.

Take away the car. When she pays for her own car, and money is tight, she may find that speeding tickets are a waste of her money. The novelty will wear off.

Ask her why she thinks there are speed limits. Take her for a drive and show her the difference between 25 and 44 mph.

She got a ticket and she will receive points. When your insurance company picks up on this, it will be costly.

This ticket and her reaction to it indicate she is likely speeding at other times too. What do you mean by managing these kinds of things on her own? Is there something she could do on her own between now and August to change her habits and show you that she is driving more safely? Otherwise it's not her, but the other drivers on the road who will in future be "managing these things" when she causes an accident due to bad habits.

No, we don't have a set age. Luckily we always told our kids that being 16 doesn't automatically mean you can drive, so the teen don't even care.
We never made it a big deal like you.

I'd take the car based on her attitude alone. Adult or not - if you paid for the car and insurance take it away until she can pay.

I'm surprised that wasn't reckless driving charge. I thought 15 miles over in a 25 automatically was. She got lucky.

Take away the car. She is not ready to drive. Better than getting killed in an accident.

I would take away the car for sure. She wasn't just going a little bit over - she was really, really speeding in a (presumably) residential area. If you want her to take it seriously, show her that you do. You sound like you want to be done parenting her (she will eventually have a birthday), but I don't think you are.

17yr old DD got a speeding ticket for going 44mph in a 25mph. She knows she has to pay the ticket(has afterschool babysitting job) but she really doesn't care and doesn't think it's a big deal. I asked why she was in such a hurry and she just shrugged and said "it's not like I was doing 80, I just didn't realize I was going fast." Husband thinks we should take away the car but she will be an adult in August and I feel like she needs to manage these kinds of things on her own.
