Las a person of Color, I had serious reservations about SSSAS -- it's got a lot of richwhite southern Reoublicans whose views influence the feel of the school community. Burgundy is a much better environment for minority kids.

SSSAS has about 15% AA population. Very few other minorities like Hispanic, Indian or Asian.

Langley is quite diverse -- in K, which has 12 or 13 children per class, there are 2 or 3 AA children, a few Hispanic children, a number of Asians and some mixed race children.

AA mom here, 2 kids at ACDS. Youngest is one of 5 AA children in K and older child has 3 other AA in their class (1 of 2 sections in grade). Having a reasonable number of other children of color in the class was one driver in the decision (reasonable being totally subjective and personal comfort). In 2017 I think (hope) your child would have other AA classmates at any Virginia private school. We chose ACDS and are quite happy. Other family members have been happy at Browne, also have good things to say about Potomac from this perspective. Nothing against the other area privates, I just don't know anyone personally who has attended/has kids at those schools. We found it worthwhile to speak 1:1 with AA families at the schools where the kids were accepted, Julie (ACDS AD) was really helpful.

I think you misunderstand, PP. The OP is referring to 'Dear Child' when using the abbreviation DC. And if OP lives in Virginia then OP is not interested in OP's DC attending public school in WDC.

Look at Congressional. The classes are very diverse.

It is tough to find more than one or two AAs per grade level in Alexandria City privates. You might want to consider a parochial school like Blessed Sacrament or St. Rita's, which won't have any more AA's but they will have other children of color. Your best bet, though, is Queen of Apostles, which is just outside of the City border in Lincolnia. It is an absolute gem of a school and it is -very- highly diverse!

Both of my children's classrooms at Potomac contain 3 or more than one AA children (in 16-18 person classrooms).
