Well respected engineering school and geology/mining program. Not well known outside the industry or engineering. Terrific location.

I know someone who's there and really likes it. He's pretty smart (not a genius, but certainly bright), reasonably hardworking, and happy with his classes -- he's on an engineering track. He's not especially social; he likes to ski and go out to eat, but mostly he wants to do his thing.

Lol. I actually have a friend from high school who went to Colorado School of Mines and my best friend's boyfriend could never call it anything else but the "Colorado School of Mimes." We always fantasized about that guy coming back and performing street shows on Xmas break and helping us break out of invisible boxes on barstools and the like.

I know several people who've gone there and loved it. Down side (for me) is that they all work in the energy industry out west so fracking places and Houston.

I have a colleague who went there and really liked it.

He was a mechanical engineering major and liked the small environment and technical focus.

As an aside, my grandfather went there, graduated in 1929...

I think in Colorado it is well thought of, don't know how many people outside of Colorado who are familiar with it.
