I had to do an in person interview for HHS public trust clearance. Seriously. It was a complete waste of 3 hours.

I have a public trust clearance and they interviewed me in person. They also forgot to start the process until I had been in the job for over 2 years.

I had one. Granted it was about 10 years ago, but still I had a brief, in-person meeting for secret.

Your HR may be wrong. The interviews are no big deal. If you have nothing to hide, its just verifying what you put on the application and probably stuff you didn't. Every investigator we've dealt with have been really nice and no issues.

DHS agencies all conduct face-to-face interviews no matter what level clearance you require

I had an interview for a Secret clearance because I had listed that our nanny was a legal permanent resident. All worked out.

Don't worry, it's normal depending on agency. I had to go through two secret clearance processes due to some complicated detail/hiring process with my position. For one agency it was straight up questionnaire to my references while the other needed an FBI interview. The interview was really just making sure your facts check out with The doc you provided and you're not part of the communist party.

I'm a fed employee, and I applied for a Secret clearance. I just got a call from an investigator asking to set up an in-person meeting. He didn't tell me over the phone what it is for. But I didn't think it was normal to have an in-person interview for a Secret clearance - I thought that was only for top-secret. My finances and references are great, I haven't traveled abroad. Can't imagine what issues would require an interview. Has anyone else had an interview for a Secret clearance?
