OP here - yes, we are both of Irish ancestry (but a generation or two back). Our nieces in NY have seriously Irish names like Mairead and Siobhan and don't have a problem, but I think it's more common in their area.

We live in Old Town which may be where DH got the idea.

It's awful, op, and you would be forever spelling it and pronouncing it for people. Please don't do that to your son!

It reminds me of a Mormon name (Ammon).

Named after the owner's son, so there is at least one around here. Also an education prof at GMU.

Eamonn's is a fish and chip place in Old Town Alexandria (on King Street.) You could go there and ask if people have a hard time pronouncing the name.

I don't really like it but I don't think it's too out there/I wouldn't let the pronunciation hold up stop me from using it if I liked it.

From your list, though, I don't really like any. Emmett is OK, Patrick's alright but none of them are really my taste in names. I'd actually probably go with Eamonn over any of the others on your list because at least it's more different/interesting whereas the rest (except Emmett) seem boring to me.

If my 6 year old can learn to pronounce the Spanish, Chinese, Ukranian, Cambodian, Philippino, French and Greek first names in his K class, I think Eamonn would be fine. I like it.

LOL. Egg! Personally I might mispronounce it (my guess: "aim-in") but if you're willing to correct people, I think it's fine. And be ready to field a lot of questions about your Irish ancestry (or lack thereof).

It is one of.mt favorites. You have other nice names on your list bit Eamonn is the one I like best.

You would probably need to clarify "AY min" once in a while but it's not hard to pronounce when you hear it.

Oops, hit submit too fast.

That being said, I'm not saying I don't like it, just that its unfamiliar to me. If you introduced me to your son named Eamonn, I'd probably repeat it back to you once and then we'd get on with our lives.
