I had a baby that was a struggle after years of secondary infertility. I looked for names meaning luck/good fortune. Didn't wind up using one, but I liked the names felice or clover as middle names.
I was set to use Elaine as a middle name (a variant of Helen), but we didn't use our first choice first name because it didn't fit my child.

This is OP. I love Helen, but I think it means bright shining light, or something similar. Or are you thinking of an historical figure? Helen Keller? Helen of Troy (not admirable)?

I'm in a similar boat as you. We've decided on Beatrix, which means 'one who brings joy' or alternatively, 'joyful traveler'. There are a lot of variants on the spelling to use actually. Both of which really resonate with us, and also helps that it goes with a difficult to pair with last name. My grandmother's name was Victoria, which I would have strongly considered if I didn't have a lovely cousin already with the name. Best of luck to you

I also like the idea of giving her a name that means "hope." Hope is a little too literal for my taste, but maybe something like Nadine.

One of my favorite civil rights leaders is Fannie Lou Hamer. I just can't love the name Fannie, but I could see using "Lou" as a middle name in her honor. I actually know a little Ana Lu, (short for Ana Lucia) which I think is an adorable double barreled name, so I could imagine Anna Lou, for example.

My son was born in similar circumstances, and I named him Nicholas, which means "victory". Girls versions would be Nicole, Nicola, Nicolette etc . . . Victoria would also be lovely.
You could also choose a name that you associate with a strong, determined, woman from history. Some that come to my mind
