Maybe have a look at the Southwest Waterftont? I think your budget might get you more like 3 bedrooms there and with the Whatf development opening this summer/fall there are about to be a bunch of new restaurants. And it's already got groceries, theatre, library, some restaurants walking distance from metro. This is a brand new building and while not a townhouse will have duplexes, I think.

Capitol Hill also works if the vibe fits you. It's walkable but not as dense as some parts of DC.

I'm still leery about buying in DC. I lived there during the Barry years, and it seems like they are always one election away from corrupt mismanagement, again. It's also difficult to rent out your place.

If I were buying, I'd look at the new construction around Shirlington first, followed by McLean.

Anywhere in North Arlington if you think you might ever want kids. If definite on no kids, see if you can find something in Rosslyn. I lived there for years and the commute into DC was pretty sweet.

Logan circle, 14th street for sure. That budget for two bedrooms is fine. You should target your search from DuPont to 11th st, as high north as u street. Anywhere in that corridor and you'll have a decent stay in DC and an easy commute - either walking or bus. Don't let anywhere talk you into the suburbs/Maryland/virginia. That just wouldn't make sense.

What is the best area to rent and later possibly to buy a nice townhome with not extremely long commute to a McPherson square for a young professional couple with no children.
Is Logan circle -Shaw good area? Old town Alexandria? We are not very familiar with D.C. We will have one car, so parking spot needed. Walkable area is a must.
Budget is under 850k for buying for 2b/2b and around 3k-4K for renting.
