Whole Foods in North Bethesda had it last week - it was in a standalone thing near the dog food (not kidding).

Nope, it's a traditional English food that contains dried fruits like raisins and currants, various spices, and some beef suet or chopped beef. It's used as a filling for pies and pastries. I've never been a fan - must be an acquired taste! It is very traditional for the holidays, though.

OP here. Mincemeat pie with hard sauce (seasoned with Bourbon) is super yummy. Traditional at holidays for generations in my family.

Traditional mincemeat recipes call for beef suet and or chopped beef. The Nonesuch brand of jarred mincemeat has a small amount of beef, way down at the bottom of the ingredients list.

I wonder if it would be possible to visit one of the bakeries in the area that sell mincemeat pies or pastries and ask if they could sell you some of the mincemeat they use..

Yep, regular grocery store, the baking aisle. It comes in a jar.

Haven't had luck at local grocery stores except once a couple of years ago at the Palisades Safeway. Unfortunately, pretty far from a Wegmans.
