I have been in this situation and you simply say no or pull away if you get to making out and you think it's going further than you want to go. Make sure a friend knows where you are and who you are with just to be safe.

Second date, going to dinner and then he wants to watching a movie at his place. The theatre here is at a mall and a suicide mission to try and park there the weekend before Christmas. We had planned to watch a movie at the theatre until we both realized we didn't want to even try to park there,
so that's how the idea came up.
First date was drinks and walking around an outdoor mall. Kissing only.
I have know him for about 6 months through work (we don't work together!) and have talked a lot through our jobs before going out so not a stranger.
