So there was food in the fridge and shampoo in the bathroom. Definitely clean sheets and empty trash cans though! Some AirBnbs are only rentals, but others are not.
OP here-- it's an elderly couple's home. They are not currently living there, but not clear how long they have been gone. The daughter met us there and gave us the key. She lives close-by. I might just send her a message today asking if I can throw out the food. If we were only staying a night or two, fine. But after a month that food will be gross and clearly they aren't going to eat it. Thanks to everyone for their replies. I wasn't expecting a luxury rental, but at a minimum I thought trash would be emptied. I'll stop whining and deal with it!!
