Is she's not working this time of year, she doesn't want to work. I'd have a hard time opening my home to someone who isn't at least trying.

We are hiring 24/7 in our restaurant. If you run fast, you can make $20-$35 an hour.
We hire people the same day. I'm sure we would hire her with her new nose. Restaurant jobs are the easiest. Nobody calls you references or checks your background. We give you a chance.

Can't believe no one has asked: soooo... how does she look?

If she had a class A honker and it's an improvement I'd welcome/help her. Her self-esteem will be boosted and she'll get on her feet soon.

If it was a hackjob I'd welcome/help her so she could fix it. This could take a while.

If it was unnecessary I'd help her get some mental health help.

I would not let a family member move in that I thought was making poor choices with money and that didn't have a clear crisis outside their control/solid plan to turn things around. Too much potential for damage to the relationship.

I would offer to:
#1. Give her enough money to make rent this month, and maybe half of rent for the next 2 months
#2. Have her over for dinner/make sure she had basic food
#3. Help her investigate other benefits she might be eligible for
#4. Help her with her resume and job application process

#1 would be CONDITIONAL on her going through Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University, which I would pay for ($100 I think). I'm an atheist, so it actually pains me a bit to make that a condition since he is hardcore evangelical, but the class is phenomenal and there is no other "network" out there like that that helps people get their act together. It's a 9 week class, and she'd have to go every week AND be open to sharing what she's learning, her budget.

#2 - #4 I'd do without conditions. But I'd be willing to give some money to the situation to avoid her moving in AND to help her get on the right track.

She can easily get a job in retail or as a temp for the holidays. Tell her to secure a job, and once she does, you'll let her TEMPORARILY stay with you.

It was nearly $9K. Now she wants to move in because her benefits ran out, she's still got no job and she can't make rent. How would you respond in this situation?
