I know in MCPS Elementary schools the PE teachers all have Curriculum 2.0 to follow so it should be relatively uniform.

I hate flag football...my non athletic daughter chipped a tooth playing it.

I think boys not passing balls to girls is very common ES and MS phys ed classes.

My son's class was running a mile or more each day at the beginning of class. They are tracking their times and distances on a spreadsheet.

Then they get into whatever the unit is. They've had basketball and soccer recently.

My kids are doing Jai Alai. It's been great fun. They are also doing discus and shot put.

Yes, a good teacher has to incorporate everyone. By the way, I was very pleased by the curriculum at my DD's MCPS middle school. Many of the units were on sports that most students are not as experienced in - ultimate Frisbee, Ping-Pong, volleyball...

My 4th grade daughter is in a co-ed gym class, and her class has done a unit on football, and now they are doing handball. From the sound of it, the girls mostly wind up sitting on the sidelines (by choice, because the boys don't pass to them) during gym. The male gym teacher doesn't force them to play. This seems a little off to me. What are your 4th or 5th grade students doing during gym?
