While it's rude to say such things, why on earth would this elicit such a strong reaction from you, OP?

Kids say mean things to each other all the time. Some kids are nastier than others, and what this child said is pretty low on the scale. My 6 year old sits at a table where a couple of other children hide her stuff, because they think it's fun. I will talk to the teacher about it, but it's really no biggie. Same for the "it's for babies" talk.

The child obviously has older sibling who make fun of his work in the same manner.

OP, it's not about 'vaules', it's just what and how little kids act. It's our job to correct that behavior and to guide them but they all do or say those kinds of things. I bet you 1 million dollars, that if you were to listen to your DDs conversations for 1 week that she will have said something 'turdish'.

Also, calling a 5 year old a turd does not speak so well of your values.

As said above, it wasn't nice but all kids are turds at times. I don't know a kid that hasn't said something hurtful, either intentionally or unintentionally.

My 5 year old came home sad today because a boy who sits at her table told her and another girl at her table their word study (spelling) pages are for "babies." Obviously he is in a harder group.

She and I talked about it and she is fine, but what a little shit. I would be mortified if my kid sold this to another child.
