Are you planning on bringing and gate checking the stroller? Just use that. Otherwise you end up with one more bulky thing to deal with while wrangling kids and installing seat. I bungee cord my marathon into my city mini . Gate check the stroller, then do family boarding with the carseat. Dh then does regular boarding with the kids, and by the time they get on, carry-on is stowed and seat is installed.

Carseat on the plane = misery.

We used to travel with our jogging stroller and would just use the latch strap or a cord and attache it into the stroller seat. Bring your seat.

i know many people love the cares, but we always have brought a car seat for our kids. They are used to sitting in it in a car and it easily translated into sitting in it for an airplane. If you have family that you have to travel to visit even once a year, it is worth it to consider a lighter weight car seat to take on the plane and use at your destination. We did that and it's nice to have the safety and constraint of the car seat but not the bulk and weight of the everyday seat.

No problem fitting out Britax marathon. We refaced and Hawaiian was so rude to us! We paid for the seat and they tried to bully us into giving up the seat for an employee on stand by.

Flew Alaskan and had no problems, they even complemented us on putting safety first and buying a seat for our 1 year old

Frimnsan fuego to Providence, RI with a 2 year old and 5 month old , both in Britax Roundabouts. We had to change planes in St. Louis. One parent wrangled the kids, the other handled the car seats.

I have done it several times without a problem. We forward face regardless of how they are in the car. Never had a problem with a bulky marathon seat fitting properly. We wheel it through the airport strapped to the stroller and gate check the stroller. Both kids have slept on several flights. YMMV.

I did it once and never again. Child was fine on the way out. We got one of those wheel attachment things which worked well for getting through the airport. We thought, easy peasy.
The return trip was the complete opposite. So awful. He did NOT want to sit in the car seat and went bananas. Such a nightmare. The flight attendants hated us so much. We finally let him sit on one of us for take off and then the stupid car seat just ended up taking up a ton of space.

It's a pain in the assignment. A regular seat is too heavy, bulky and wide to tote around the airport and plane. Forward facing they can't use the tray table and kick the seat in front of them, and often the belt buckle is in the middle of their back. Rear facing the person in front can't recline their seat.

We are flying next week to Florida with my 2.5 year old and 9 month old. This is the first time flying with the oldest as a non lap child with his own seat. He is very active and hard to sit still. We were thinking of bringing his car seat on the plane to install and have him sit in. Experiences and thoughts? Do the big convertible car seats reliably fit on all airlines? We'll be busy feeding and trying to keep the fussy 9 month old happy...so trying to keep the 2.5 year old contained.
