True he obviously doesn't want to go

Maybe he's sick of all the extravagant spending?

Do you guys make a ton of money? Those trips sound pretty extravagant for birthday celebrations.

FI = Fiancé I assume?

For one thing...What is your salary like compared to his? Is the trip you bought for him not something that set you back significantly? Is the trip you want something that WILL set him back significantly?

It's not good to keep score, for another thing.

Lastly, it's also not good to lavishly spend on him if he didn't ask for the trip you took him on (maybe he did, not enough info) and then automatically expect the same in return. Kinda inconsiderate. I would never expect a beach resort trip as a gift but that's just me.

The only fair way is to have him pay for your birthday trip, and then you split the cost of your birthday parade.

For his birthday I took him on a 4 night/5 day vacation.

For my birthday, I told him I wanted to take two days at my favorite beachside resort. It's half the cost of the vacation we just went on. He balked at the cost, and suggested I pay for one night and he pay for the other?!

I'm really taken aback. I don't know what to say. I was not expecting he would expect I contribute to my birthday costs.
