I also LOVE my DH, but it took over a decade to get to this point where we are both very happy in our relationship. We have decided - after trying many different arrangements over the years - that everyone in our family's life runs smoother if I am a SAHM and he is a workaholic. Thus, we have very clearly defined roles and no more resentment. As a woman who believes women can do most things better than men, this was a hard decision to come to. Giving up my very high status/paying career was very tough for me, but it was worth it in the end. No, we can't afford to live in a huge mansion and drive new BMWs, but we still have a very luxurious life, comparatively speaking, and do not have to make any sacrifices for lifestyle/retirement/college savings, primarily due to all of the years I put in before leaving the workforce. I think it's for the best. It is teaching our kids to learn to live within more normal means and not always think that money grows on trees. I have noticed that they are becoming much more aware of the value of money now that we are not blowing through it like we did when they were younger.


Interesting, we have found it works much smoother when we both work and both contribute (almost) equally to the house/family stuff. Essentially, I tell him what home stuff he needs to do and he does it. For us this works far better than when I stayed home as I would get resentful that his job ended at 6 and mine was never done. And we had 1/2 as much money, which was highly stressful.

Every family needs to find their groove!

I think if anything we should be raising our sons better and teaching our daughters to expect more. Men need to step up.

Also a lot of men no longer do the same things once the hunt is over and they've found the one. Some just get complacent. And that does suck.

I agree with a lot of the PPs but also, this is just such a stressful time of year coupled with stressful world events so everyone is... not at their greatest right now. I love my DH and he's an amazing guy but I'm still finding myself annoyed with him way more these days over little things that I wouldn't normally even notice.

Agree with PP, If you are going to have to raise your children by yourself with your DH sitting in the same house and not helping then what is the point of him? If your life is to be a single parent then be a single parent.

Men suck. They've always sucked. Back in the day when most women stayed at home, it was a given that they'd be responsible for the majority of the household and child rearing burden. In our current society women are now expected to work full time but STILL shoulder the lions share of those duties. It's a joke. My two cents.
