I can't imagine how. The ones I've seen are no more than 6" long, and one end is clipped to the kid's shirt. How could a baby hurt themselves with that?

Seriously. I've never heard of pacifier clips being a problem before and I would love to see some actual documentation.

My kid wears his at day care and sleeps with it clipped on. Worst thing that's happened is he can't find the pacifier because it is underneath him.

If you google, the only things that come up are ominous posts on message boards by other mom just like this.

If your daycare allows them I would question your daycare's safety standards in general.

I thought they were too short to actually do any harm. The length isn't long enough to wrap around anything. And I assume the clips are removed during sleep anyway, no?

I used them with both my babies and they were very short so it never seemed a strangulation risk and I never found them wrapped around anything, even with DD learned to unclip hers.

But, as PP's note, I don't think a daycare center would allow them.

I would be surprised if your daycare even allows them.

Sounds like a good time to break the constant pacifier use. Save it for sleep time and other times when she's particularly cranky or whatever.

Our daycare does not allow them, and for good reason.

Our pediatrician warned us against them.

We use them and I worry. The ones we use (bella tunno) are fairly short and cannot wrap around DS' neck. I've tried. But I do still worry a bit and don't use them at naps and overnight. Because of that there is a graveyard of pacifiers under the crib. We own a lot of pacis.

Sorry meant to say strangulation hazard.

Are pacifier clips safe? I'm concerned they are a choking hazard but our daughter is a pacifier addict and will be starting in a child care program soon so it seems like a good solution to her spitting it on the ground.
