"You're in luck! This victorian mansion is on the market for $50k, and we'll use the rest for renovations!"

I know places where you couldn't buy a parking spot for $50k.

Yes? Your average American does own their own home. It might not be a mansion and it might be in a small town. Working poor may not own homes, but your average middle class American does.

The prices people pay for large homes on Fixer Upper are rage-inducing compared to this area. I know its Waco, Texas but still.

It's made me dislike open floorplans more! It makes the home look cheap when you open the front door and can see the entire house. I was kind of indifferent before and now I dislike them.

I think that is a lot of TV, and that is basically why I watch those kind of shows. It's to see the fantasy of what could be with more time and money than I'll ever have. I watch cooking shows knowing I'll never be able to replicate the dishes, and certainly not in that amount of time. Basically every 'reality' show portrays people who don't live anything close to a normal life.

My biggest frustration is via tv magic, the reno is done in an hour!

I think most people understand that it is being staged and the furniture isn't free.

Many of the costs are misleading because the homeowners are getting the labor at a steep discount. Good luck getting those prices from contractors in this area.

The values are concerning. Except for rehab addict, they do these complete home makeovers that few could afford.

To me, it is this kind of broadcasting that makes people feel that they are missing out.
