You guys are morons. Don't you sometimes do things for other people because it makes THEM happy? Sure, there's challenges to seeing my mom but it turns out (and here's where the IQ comes in) most things in life are shades of gray. We're going to friends for Thanksgiving and somehow I still spent all morning behind the stove making a brunch to ride everyone over and stuff to contribute to dinner. Otherwise DH's idiot friend who's visiting was going to "make us brunch" and "make the sides". Yeah, right. I'd rather be stuck here in the kitchen. The last thing I need after being trapped behind the stove is to clean up after men who want to play at being chef and collect accolades, leave spills and dirty pots and pans, and then wander away to watch TV while I'm trying to get the kids into clean clothes and put on makeup at the same time.

buy a bunch of stuff premade qnd just do the turkey and one or two simple things from scratch. Makes it much less stressful. Also, assign tasks. Give your husband a list of things you need help with and get him to help and delegate as needed.

My parents always took us away to the tropics or skiing (used to snow more). Now that we are grown, they still expect to be with us for thanksgiving with a turkey in a house. I don't get it.

Just once, I would like to mix it up a bit and celebrate a holiday somewhere else besides behind the stove in my own house.

I know as a kid we used to go away, and I really want that. At least once.
