OP again - do many kids in middle school range have TVs/computers in their rooms? We don't but I could be open to it. That would help with gift giving!

Depends on what they use the room for. If they have a small room and only sleep it in, then nice bedding (comfortable and right weight if they prefer hot or cold) floating shelves above the bed for belongings. If they study there, then laptop or regular desk, good lighting around workspaces and/or bed, storage for things needed to study (e.g. a place to put laptop/tablet, charging station, place to put/dump whatever they usually carry). If they hang out there with friends, then comfortable seating, wall mounted TV, maybe mini-fridge for drinks.

What do they use the room for?

I have an 11 and 13 year old boy, they each have a wallshelf and a bulletin board in their rooms that I let them have free reign over. As they've gotten older, what they put on them changes, so they can keep it individualized. They also both have beanbag chairs. The 13 year old keeps his in the closet and only pulls it out if he's going to watch a DVD or something in his room, but the 11 yo always sits in his.

We gave my dds bean bag chairs last Christmas and they were big hits. Used constantly in their rooms.

My son likes his desk organizer/supplies and a big white board. We had fun framing it and putting it up.
The speaker is a good idea -- thinking along those lines too.

I think it's a lovely idea. First, do they have particular interests? Do they have much artwork on their walls, I'd suggest framing a family photo, a piece of their own artwork, or a print or poster about something they like.

We are giving 13 y/o DD removable wallpaper of her choice. Installation will be a family project.

I'm thinking that I'm going to give gifts to feather my kids' nests. We have 3 boys, ages 9 through 12. Their rooms are nicely designed, but pretty stark. What do you think I can add in there? Bluetooth speakers? I can't think of anything! What do your kids of similar age have in their bedrooms?
