OP here, and thanks everyone. Yes, I am hosting, but I think keeping myself busy today and surrounded by family tomorrow (including my brother and his family) is the better call for us. It's potluck, so I don't have to make much myself, and I'll probably slack off a bit on the housecleaning, but cancelling altogether or even ordering pizza will probably just make everyone more sad.

I had a good cry, DH came home and gave me a good hug, and I picked myself up and headed to the store. Just have to try not to cry at all the happy people today. Prayers for my brother. Thanks all.

Oh I am sorry. Just hang in, forget making thanksgiving dinner, do what you can.

I'm sorry OP. If it's too late to cancel, I'd just order in pizza. Only the cruelest person wouldn't understand.

Sorry - that really sucks. Like others said, no cooking for you. Order the whole meal including pies. Get some wine and good coffee. Use paper plates and toast your grandfather. Celebrate the time with your family.

I'm sorry, OP. The thing is you were not supposed to do anything. This universe is random, and shitty things happen to decent people each and every day. Please be kind to yourself. I hope you find ways to cope with your loss soon.

I wish other posters on these forums appreciated what they have more instead of being pissed off about insignificant minutia of their lives.

Hugs OP. My grandfather died 16 years ago tomorrow. Thanksgiving will always have a tie to his passing. Life is so hard sometimes.
