NCS (and some little-known college in Cambridge Mass) produced the funniest satirist going, the author of the "Compost" blog at the Washington Post. She is really on top of her game.

Long may our young scientists still learn to turn a nice phrase.

Exactly my point. STEM can't be why you choose between schools.
You choose the one that works best for your family.

STEM is a buzzword! Look deeply into curriculum and dont get hung up on the "new" or "in" thing in learning. The "new math" sucks.

Btw, Holton won over TJ in a recent Chem-a-thon.

Look further than STEM when choosing between NCS and Holton.

No--actually the most pure nerd likely be the next female Steve Jobs is at Latin, Walls or Wilson.

There is a lower school robotics club, a middle school math club and engineering club, STEM summer camp for Holton girls only, lots of upper school clubs focused on STEM including a STEM Scholar designation and science research program that is well known.

Lots of great STEM options from amazing local girls' schools!

Hear, hear. Some great schools in this area -- we are lucky to have great public and private school choices.

My child is in public school and competes in Science Olympiad. I noticed that NCS did well in the high school division. (They didn't have middle schoolers competing.)

Holton is great for STEM, NCS has put more emphasis on it and has an excellent program now also. I don't think it has to be and either/or proposition -- both schools would be an excellent choice for girls with an interest in STEM.

I was at a robotics competition last weekend and I was impressed by the NCS team (middle school). Lots of girls participated, it was one of the only racially diverse teams there, they seemed to be supporting each other nicely, and they did very well in the competition.

I don't know anything else about either school.

I have the same question. I was pleasantly surprised to recently find a similar news article on their site.

I am interested in both NCS and Holton for my daughter. I have always believed that Holton was the STEM school of the two and NCS was more for Humanities and writing. As I compare,I am beginning to notice that NCS is pretty serious about STEM. What I really like is that they compete! They are the only all girls team and they are doing really well. Perhaps they are the best school for both? Is this just a one time thing,or are they becoming a bona fide, serious stem program?
