There are stories going around that in the 24 hours after the election, there were eight reports of suicide attempts by transgender people and that trans calls to suicide hotlines have surged. These stories were used to support the idea that a Trump presidency is dangerous for transgender people. This has been reported by ABC, Mother Jones, and Pink News.

In fact, what is dangerous to the lives of trans people is these kinds of stories. They're unsubstantiated, but with suicide overall there is absolutely a contagion effect. The only indication that a Trump administration would in any way affect trans issues is that Pence said he believes the issue of trans bathroom access should be left up to the states... as it currently is. So these media outlets are encouraging angst and unfortunately, suicidal thoughts, by reporting on an issue that doesn't actually exist.

Irresponsible and disgusting. I voted HRC but this is the kind of liberal baseless panic that HAS to stop. This could actually be a matter of life and death. This is fear mongering.

He frames the whole thing as a "state's rights" issue, that these matters should be decided by the states rather than at the federal level. The problem is, that's not how it works for fundamental rights. Fundamental rights are specifically supposed to be protected at the federal Constitutional level because they are supposed to be inviolable and not subject to the whims of a state's citizens. Thus, when he says he would seek to overturn all of those things and leave it to the states, what he's really saying is that gay people shouldn't have rights, they should just have whatever favors their states decide to grant them.

He has said he would sign the First Amendment Defense Act, which is specifically designed to legalize discrimination against gays, even without a conflicting religious belief. He's vowed to overturn Obama's executive order protecting trans people from discrimination.

I don't get it either. I recently heard LBGTQ advocates specifically bring up the bathroom issue. He's actually in favor of transgender people having the right to choose a bathroom. He stated this months ago during a news conference on the Today show. Here's the video: https://youtu.be/piq-3pnIQCE They even asked him if Caitlyn Jenner were to enter Trump Tower, if she could use any bathroom she wished to use. He replied that was correct. After this video aired, Caitlyn Jenner did in fact accept his offer. Trump is actually a moderate on many issues, including this one.

So, other than saying he would nominate conservative Supreme Court justices, he has said nothing that they should be fearful of?

Nothing. I am gay and a small business owner. I voted for him. I don't follow social media and sadly most news outlet as news

Supporters of Clinton were counting on 2, possibly 3, appointees during her term/s. Now it falls to Trump and the balance of the court could be altered for 20 years.

In his Pulse Nightclub shooting statement, he talked about the need to protect gays from radical Islamists.
