This speech was pretty scathing. It set a certain tone for President Obama presidency.

That's partisan bullshit. And yes, I know about 40 years ago, I know about the comment regarding the judge, it's still partisan enhanced bullshit.

And no, I don't like Trump and I didn't vote for him either. My response to you is completely non partisan.

As I recall liberals had extreme vitriol against Bush. At the inauguration handover President Obama slammed him and democrats chanted "na na na na " and waved their arms in the air as the helicopter took the Bushes away. I did not think Bush was a perfect president, but I also did not think he was a stupid crazy or horrible person. I think all the Bushes have proven themselves time and again to be fundamentally decent people and Bush 1 was an excellent president, just as an aside. It was a relief to me when Obama was elected just to not have to hear/read daily vitriol from Democrats about W and his administration. Now after basically 20 years of extreme partisanship from both sides, and a President elect who doesn't represent either side, we can put aside the vitriol and work together to look out for our country. Neither Dems or Republicans are perfect and we both lost this election. I see it as an opportunity to reset.

I flew to Europe hours after voting in Bush/Gore election (and still no President when I touched down)). and lived there until spring of 2002. Europe had tons of protests against Bush..to the point we claimed to be Canadian.

It's not just racism. It is looking like a textbook slide into fascism. I don't necessarily think I agree with all the protestors motives and certainly don't agree with violence but those of us speaking out are in many cases doing so not out if concerns about particular policy positions but out of deep concern that America as we know it may be crumbling. We are speaking out as patriots. Our founding fathers would be turning over in their graves right now.

I'm beyond concerns about particular economic policies, ACA, etc...let the Rs do their thing. I want America as a free country with a first amendment when Trump is done with it. I'm appalled by many of the comments from Trump supporters in the web who are happy to punish journalists, curtail the right to assemble and protest, etc...you know a liberal org like the ACLU has defended the right of the KKK to march. Our civil liberties don't just apply to the voices we like.

Weren't there some protests about the recount? But Bush was a fundamentally decent man who did not align himself with the lunatic fringe of his party.

Were there protest after Bush one? I remember being disgusted but not protest.
