No, it's really not. Stop being bitter about your kid's autism diagnosis. Children's successfully treats a wide range of children just not your fragile ego.

My child does not have autism. My child has a language disorder. We went at age two and they said my child was fin. Went for a second opionon that was very different. Children's was very wrong.

It doesn't mean they are terrible. Even the best specialists get stuff wrong from time to time.

Children's was terrible. Agree, even the best specialists can get it "wrong" as they are often doing predictions but it was clear my child had a language concern and the evaluator was very dismissive about it.

We were referred to Gallaudet but didn't go as it was too far. Interesting to hear about their evaluations but we've had several evaluations with just a few raw scores and a recommendation for therapy. Those were really disappointing.

My insurance covered Gallaudet.

I thought that they would be great, given the brand... but I got the worse evaluation write up ever. It was essentially, a few graphs of the score - then the summary stated what the test was and then the score, with no further analysis. The recommendations were just to get speech therapy.

I would recommend the Lab School. They were wonderful and through. Sadly, I shared my last Lab School test with Gallaudet and said I wanted testing/analysis like that, and they fell fall short of the expectation.

It's a good idea to get a strong language assessment, as sometimes the nuances of language disorders a missed and/or misdiagnosed as other issues.

So at 2, Children's said your kid was fine, and second opinion found a language disorder?

These are good suggestions. Kingsbury Day School and the Lab School of Washington also do assessments.
