Watch surfers on the beach while munching on Krispy Kreme
donuts.

Visit the Children's pool and wish the sea lions a good Morning in La Jolla.

Go watch the surfers and let the kids play on the beach! Bonus is that you'll wear the kids out and they'll nap. I'd go to Mission Beach - at that time you can park. Honestly at that hour you have your pick of beaches.

The other thing is that the San Diego Zoo has some 'early morning' exhibits where you get in before the rest of the zoo opens. I don't think it's 5 am but you would have to start getting ready early.

Kids are 5 and 7 and we are in San Diego. Kids would have pushed to wake up at 5am today but because of the time change, we are back to 4am.

I would go for a hike off one of the public parks near Pacific Palisades etc.

Beach. Donuts. More beach. Most of the coffee shops open at 6.

There will be virtually no traffic at that hour, so it can be a good time to get to far-flung tourist sites.

My kids were up at 3 am every day in California. They are early risers on the east coast. Even pushing it a few hours, it was still very early.

Do this!

That is what TV is for.

I would wait until the sun comes up, then go for and AM walk on the beach then breakfast.

Um make your kids sleep or lay still. Why do parents allow kids to run the show?!? You're the adult!!!

My kids wake up super early on a normal basis. Add in jet lag and we are up at 4am!

Can you recommend places that may be enjoyable even if nothing is open?

Most attractions open at 10am.
