Second most dangerous equestrian sport, right after steeplechase (jumping over solid fences). Horses quite often end up on top of riders trying to round an oil drum at 35-40 mph.

Barrel racing is really dangerous once riders get into competition. Stick with dressage.

Look into eventing. There are a couple cowboys who do barrel racing in Maryland, but it's nothing like what they do farther west.

My daughter might have an affinity for barrel racing. She does ok in dressage, but it looks like barrel racing might be more her forte. Where would she go for lessons/competition for this around Fairfax County? I couldn't really find anything using google search or COTH....???
