Wrong. The people on my street who did this were busy taking their own kids out trick or treating.

The article said they were trick or treating with their kids. I suppose it's possible they were also drinking but seems unlikely.

Send 1 parent or turn off the lights until you return. This is not rocket science.

The people across the street from me left out bowls. Once kids (walking by in the parade) saw the unattended candy it was like flies on honey. While most took a piece or two there were a couple of kids who took a handful, started to walk away, went back for another handful, then a third or fourth.

The CC listserv is a nightmare. In my time on that list, I saw a parent write in for legal advice about how to sue Layfayette because her child didn't have homework yet...in kindergarten....in September.

I also saw someone write in to "report" four Black men walking down the street. Just walking. Literally walking while Black.

I'm surprised there's no thread on this already. Short version: family puts out a candy bowl and their home security camera catches 2 kids (older ES or MS age) emptying out the whole bowl into their backpack. He posts the video on the neighborhood listserv. Many parents actually chime in to defend the kids as "kids being kids," "they are welcome on my block," "what kid would only take one piece"? Now, it may not have been the right thing to post the kids pictures, but what parents would defend this entitled behavior? This is how kids turn into Brock Turner.

Then, the WaPo, in their typical lazy reporting, recaps the listserv discussion verbatim and it's published as a story, even though the reporter did not actually speak with the original poster or any neighbors (clearly she is on the listserv herself and there are at least 20+ people who have posted).
